Beauty & The Blogger

When I was a new Esthetician & Professional Make-Up Artist 27 years ago things were so different than they are now. We did not have social media & I could not even write a  blog back then! I have always loved too write, so this is even more fun because it is something I am passionate about, make-up & skin-care!!! I have not written for a while because there were some incredibly crazy things going on I'm my life & I had 2 daughters crowned in the Miss America Pageant system:)
So back to the writing fun for me & I want to take some time to introduce myself! I am Saroya & I call my business Saroya Beauty. I have been an Esthetician & Professional Make-Up Artist for 27 years! My first job was at a small skin care salon in Carmel CA., called Ambiance Aesthetics. I was already a licensed Esthetician but the owner Janette taught me how to give the most incredibly, soothing facials! She had also been a Make-Up Artist in Los Angeles for years working on models, famous people & clients. Janette taught me how to do Make-Up Hollywood Style & I loved it! I worked for her for one year & it felt like I received years of training from her. I decided to come home to continue my career because I missed my family! I worked at a few salons when I came home  building my clientele & strengthening my skills! I also become a certified massage therapist to add to my services & continued working. I was about 7 years into my career when I decided to work for myself. I was using a product called AVEDA which totally fit me because it was a naturally based line & since years earlier I ran my dad's health food store, AVEDA was right for me! My business kept growing & I rented an office by myself! BUT, I was selling so much AVEDA so my new husband Rob & I started to think & pray for 1 year about renting a retail/salon/spa space & so we did! My business was already called Amenities by Saroya, we dropped by Saroya & that is when Amenities AVEDA Spa/Salon was born!!! Amenities grew from 1 employee to 13 in 10 years. I also worked as an AVEDA Educator teaching facial & body treatments which I specialized in as well as Make-Up services!!! Around the 10 year mark my husband & I had 2 daughters & we decide to sell Amenities. Since then it has been 11 years & I have continued to work adding Spa Consultant to my bag of tricks & I still love what I do, especially MAKE-UP!!!

The Beauty of a Facial or Body Treatment

Take a moment & close your eyes! Imagine the sound of  soft subtle waves crashing in the near distance and peaceful music playing. Next you smell the soothing aroma of lavender, while you experience tender soft massage movements across your face. As you gently open your eyes you remember you are enjoying a facial!

There is something that is so soothing and therapeutic for me when I am performing a facial or massage. The first job I ever had as an esthetician was at a little facial studio in downtown Carmel CA., upstairs in an office building. It was only about 4 blocks from the ocean. As I performed my facials I could hear the quiet roar of the ocean. and the scent of Dermalogica skincare and lavender was heavenly! I would start with cleansing the skin, then exfoliation, a skin analysis and extractions. Next I would work the real magic with slow relaxing massage movements on the face, decollete and shoulders. Finishing off with a facial mask, lavender toner and moisturizer. I would do all this while listening to beautiful spa music. Sometimes I would become so relaxed I wished I was the one experiencing the facial!

To this day I remember working in that incredible place, performing my facials in a serene environment. What I learned there had such an impact on me that I patterned my career after the feeling I had working there!

There are so choices of facial treatments to experience these days and so many salon/spa's to experience them in. Here are some examples of where you can get it done; Facial Studio's, salons, spa's, destination spa's, dermatology office, and plastic surgeon's office! But, my personnel favorite is A Destination Spa. Let me explain. There are some hotels that have spa's on their premises. Typically the spa offers a variety of services! There is nothing like being able to experience a facial, massage or another service and after the service is over being able to go back to my room and go to sleep! There was an AVEDA Destination Spa in Denver Colorado that my husband stayed at for a wedding anniversary years ago! It was so awesome to have a soothing/relaxing facial and go back to my room after and take a nap. Another time I went to a destination spa in Osceola Wisconsin to take an aromaology and body treatment class. We worked all day learning aromaology and body treatments and then performed them on each other! To this day that is one of the funnest things I have ever done! One night we sat in the eucalyptus steam room, after I went to my room and  took a hot bath I put an essential oil called Melissa Balm in the bath water. The room I stayed in had no television, phone or window coverings and the bed had a huge feather down mattress and pillows. I have never slept like that before. I woke up so refreshed and relaxed, I know it was because of all the treatments I experienced the day before as well as the eucalyptus steam room, Melissa Balm bath and the comfy bed!!!
Maybe it is time you book a facial, massage or body treatment!

As I performed facials and massages today I truly enjoyed it! The beautiful sound of Pachelbel's Cannon in D Major and waves played as I worked. I was so relexed and I love my work.

It is so important that when you go antwhere for a facial or any other service that it is clean! If it is a facial, massage or body treatment, those services are designed so that the person having the service can experience true relaxation, therefore it should be quiet and serene. You should always be treated with kindness and respect and walk away after the treatment feeling better than when you came in the door. The products used on you should be good for your skin, and you should see and feel a difference on your skin especially after a facial.

Remember the experience I shared with my first job as an esthetician in Carmel? I have always felt like that when performing a facial, massage or body treatment, even more important the client should feel so pampered. So, make sure whereever you go for a treatment they treat you and make you feel like you are on cloud nine!!!

Beauty and My Career

When I was a little girl, I could not have imagined working in the Health and Beauty Industry for over 25 years. Lipstick was the only makeup I saw my mom wear, she was overweight and was not very interested in fashion. I did not have a problem with my weight, but I wore very little makeup and most of the time I never wore it at all.

I started my career after high school managing my fathers Health Food Store. I really enjoyed learning about Nutrition/Weight Loss/Lifestyle Products, supplements, Health Food and educating the customers that came in about all the products we had to offer.  After working at the Health Food Store for 4 years, my hairdresser suggested I check into becoming an esthetician, I did not have a clue what an esthetician was!

I spoke with someone at my local beauty school and decided to go to school to become an esthetician. I started school and began to learn about anatomy, skincare, facials, waxing, makeup and lash & brow tints. The funnest part was performing facials, waxing, makeup and lash & brow tints on the clients that came in to the school. It took me about one year to graduate. Now it was time to begin my career, or so I thought. I started working at a local department store in the makeup department., thinking it would be easy getting a job as an esthetician once I got my licence. I went to every salon in town, no one would hire me because I had no experience. After a year, I was discouraged!!!

I called a friend that lived in Carmel California. I told her I was willing to move if she could let me know of any salons that were looking for an esthetician. My friend met a salon owner named Janette Archer at a business mixer,  Janette was looking for an esthetician who had no experience, so she could train them. I called her, went to Carmel for an interview, and got the job! Janette provided excellent advanced training for me in the art of  Facials & Makeup, she had worked herself in Los Angeles as a Professional Makeup Artist for many years. She passed on the ability to do Makeup Application/Instruction & Photographic Makeup.

After working for a year at Ambiance Esthetics's in Carmel it was time for me to go back to my home town. It was so expensive to live there. I was praying that with the experience I had gained, someone would hire me. I was right! I worked for another salon owner who was an expert in waxing, but did not like the environment so I found another job and stayed there for years. As I built my clientelle, I decided massage would be a great thing to add on to my abilities, and I went to school and earned my massage therapy certificate!

I had worked for other people for years and decided to go on my own. I was introduced to the skincare line AVEDA. I loved it and kept growing my business. I grew out of my office space a couple of years due to the fact that I desperatly needed a retail location. After much prayer and discussion with my husband, we decided to open an AVEDA spa & salon!!!

I loved to perform AVEDA facials, body treatments and selling their products, I applied to be an AVEDA Face & Body PUREFESSIONAL. That is an estheitician that is trained to train other estheticians to perform their facials, body treatments and learn product knowledge about AVEDA. I tried out for the position and got the job. I did that along with owning an AVEDA spa & salon, being an esthetician & massage therapist. The other thing I found I really loved doing was waxing and much to my surprise makeup!

I have enjoyed a career that has lasted over 25 years. I sold the salon, but I still love working in my fields of choice: Esthetics, Massage Therapy, Makeup Artistry, Spa/Salon Consultant!

Now I add writing! I have been writing since I was a kid, I love writing poetry, non fiction and I am currently in ther process of writing a book, so let's see where I go from here!!!
