Beauty and My Career

When I was a little girl, I could not have imagined working in the Health and Beauty Industry for over 25 years. Lipstick was the only makeup I saw my mom wear, she was overweight and was not very interested in fashion. I did not have a problem with my weight, but I wore very little makeup and most of the time I never wore it at all.

I started my career after high school managing my fathers Health Food Store. I really enjoyed learning about Nutrition/Weight Loss/Lifestyle Products, supplements, Health Food and educating the customers that came in about all the products we had to offer.  After working at the Health Food Store for 4 years, my hairdresser suggested I check into becoming an esthetician, I did not have a clue what an esthetician was!

I spoke with someone at my local beauty school and decided to go to school to become an esthetician. I started school and began to learn about anatomy, skincare, facials, waxing, makeup and lash & brow tints. The funnest part was performing facials, waxing, makeup and lash & brow tints on the clients that came in to the school. It took me about one year to graduate. Now it was time to begin my career, or so I thought. I started working at a local department store in the makeup department., thinking it would be easy getting a job as an esthetician once I got my licence. I went to every salon in town, no one would hire me because I had no experience. After a year, I was discouraged!!!

I called a friend that lived in Carmel California. I told her I was willing to move if she could let me know of any salons that were looking for an esthetician. My friend met a salon owner named Janette Archer at a business mixer,  Janette was looking for an esthetician who had no experience, so she could train them. I called her, went to Carmel for an interview, and got the job! Janette provided excellent advanced training for me in the art of  Facials & Makeup, she had worked herself in Los Angeles as a Professional Makeup Artist for many years. She passed on the ability to do Makeup Application/Instruction & Photographic Makeup.

After working for a year at Ambiance Esthetics's in Carmel it was time for me to go back to my home town. It was so expensive to live there. I was praying that with the experience I had gained, someone would hire me. I was right! I worked for another salon owner who was an expert in waxing, but did not like the environment so I found another job and stayed there for years. As I built my clientelle, I decided massage would be a great thing to add on to my abilities, and I went to school and earned my massage therapy certificate!

I had worked for other people for years and decided to go on my own. I was introduced to the skincare line AVEDA. I loved it and kept growing my business. I grew out of my office space a couple of years due to the fact that I desperatly needed a retail location. After much prayer and discussion with my husband, we decided to open an AVEDA spa & salon!!!

I loved to perform AVEDA facials, body treatments and selling their products, I applied to be an AVEDA Face & Body PUREFESSIONAL. That is an estheitician that is trained to train other estheticians to perform their facials, body treatments and learn product knowledge about AVEDA. I tried out for the position and got the job. I did that along with owning an AVEDA spa & salon, being an esthetician & massage therapist. The other thing I found I really loved doing was waxing and much to my surprise makeup!

I have enjoyed a career that has lasted over 25 years. I sold the salon, but I still love working in my fields of choice: Esthetics, Massage Therapy, Makeup Artistry, Spa/Salon Consultant!

Now I add writing! I have been writing since I was a kid, I love writing poetry, non fiction and I am currently in ther process of writing a book, so let's see where I go from here!!!
