The Beauty of a Facial or Body Treatment

Take a moment & close your eyes! Imagine the sound of  soft subtle waves crashing in the near distance and peaceful music playing. Next you smell the soothing aroma of lavender, while you experience tender soft massage movements across your face. As you gently open your eyes you remember you are enjoying a facial!

There is something that is so soothing and therapeutic for me when I am performing a facial or massage. The first job I ever had as an esthetician was at a little facial studio in downtown Carmel CA., upstairs in an office building. It was only about 4 blocks from the ocean. As I performed my facials I could hear the quiet roar of the ocean. and the scent of Dermalogica skincare and lavender was heavenly! I would start with cleansing the skin, then exfoliation, a skin analysis and extractions. Next I would work the real magic with slow relaxing massage movements on the face, decollete and shoulders. Finishing off with a facial mask, lavender toner and moisturizer. I would do all this while listening to beautiful spa music. Sometimes I would become so relaxed I wished I was the one experiencing the facial!

To this day I remember working in that incredible place, performing my facials in a serene environment. What I learned there had such an impact on me that I patterned my career after the feeling I had working there!

There are so choices of facial treatments to experience these days and so many salon/spa's to experience them in. Here are some examples of where you can get it done; Facial Studio's, salons, spa's, destination spa's, dermatology office, and plastic surgeon's office! But, my personnel favorite is A Destination Spa. Let me explain. There are some hotels that have spa's on their premises. Typically the spa offers a variety of services! There is nothing like being able to experience a facial, massage or another service and after the service is over being able to go back to my room and go to sleep! There was an AVEDA Destination Spa in Denver Colorado that my husband stayed at for a wedding anniversary years ago! It was so awesome to have a soothing/relaxing facial and go back to my room after and take a nap. Another time I went to a destination spa in Osceola Wisconsin to take an aromaology and body treatment class. We worked all day learning aromaology and body treatments and then performed them on each other! To this day that is one of the funnest things I have ever done! One night we sat in the eucalyptus steam room, after I went to my room and  took a hot bath I put an essential oil called Melissa Balm in the bath water. The room I stayed in had no television, phone or window coverings and the bed had a huge feather down mattress and pillows. I have never slept like that before. I woke up so refreshed and relaxed, I know it was because of all the treatments I experienced the day before as well as the eucalyptus steam room, Melissa Balm bath and the comfy bed!!!
Maybe it is time you book a facial, massage or body treatment!

As I performed facials and massages today I truly enjoyed it! The beautiful sound of Pachelbel's Cannon in D Major and waves played as I worked. I was so relexed and I love my work.

It is so important that when you go antwhere for a facial or any other service that it is clean! If it is a facial, massage or body treatment, those services are designed so that the person having the service can experience true relaxation, therefore it should be quiet and serene. You should always be treated with kindness and respect and walk away after the treatment feeling better than when you came in the door. The products used on you should be good for your skin, and you should see and feel a difference on your skin especially after a facial.

Remember the experience I shared with my first job as an esthetician in Carmel? I have always felt like that when performing a facial, massage or body treatment, even more important the client should feel so pampered. So, make sure whereever you go for a treatment they treat you and make you feel like you are on cloud nine!!!
